Where the sidewalk ends

with over 150 miles of coastal views where the sidewalk ends and the sand begins, it is not a surprise that even as a Los Angeles native I am still discovering parks and beaches that are new to me with all their beauty and adventure. This beach below had a daring path down to the rocky shore where we played bubbles, flew kites, searched tide pools, taking a photo or two, here and there. Taking family portraits can be easier, and more fun when there is an element of fun for the kids and ease with the parents, and that is why beaches, parks and hikes can offer the best backdrop for a relaxed family portrait session.

This new preschool bestie of mine was a total energy ball who found delight in all the small things that adults sometimes miss out on. A broken shell becomes a treasure, a hidden anemone a friend. The wind whistled through her blonde hair as she skipped to me with fists full of sand that I have to wonder might find themselves soaring through the air towards me. I love every minute of it.

Some of the things I hope this family doesn’t forget are the way a heavy child can dangle clinging to your neck, Dandelion wishes, sandy toes, broken shells, and pesky seagulls are the recipe for this maternity shoot, and I hope that the new addition has even half the spark of joy this one brought to this family.

To visit this beach, be prepared for shaky at best dirt paths and rock stepping down to the small beach below, perhaps even best to go at a lower tide(this is the time of day we visited) The beach is located in Palos Verdes, and begins at Founders Park just below Trump Golf course. Parking is public.
